On February 14, 2024, the FDA issued a recall for 12-ounce cans of Against the Grain Pulled Beef with Gravy Dinner for dogs. The recall was issued due to potential adulteration with pentobarbital, a chemical used to euthanize animals. Pentobarbital is known to cause side effects including dizziness, drowsiness, loss of balance, excitement, nausea, and coma – in extreme cases it may even be fatal.
