Seattle, WA: On September 8, 2016 the Addiction Foods company issued a voluntary recall for 355 cases of canned dog food after laboratory testing revealed high levels of Vitamin A as well as inconsistencies with calcium/phosphorus ratios. The specific formulas affected by this recall include the Addiction New Zealand Brushtail and Vegetables Canned Dog Food Entrée and the Addiction New Zealand Brushtail and Apples Canned Dog Food Entrée with the following lot numbers and expiration dates:

Both of these foods were manufactured in the company’s New Zealand facility and shipped between Feb. 11 and March 19. These products were sold in brick-and-mortar stores and by online distributors. Though there have been no reports of animal health concerns related to this recall, the Addiction Foods company has issued a statement saying that the affected lots do not meet the company’s standards for safety and quality. In addition to recalling affected lots of these two products, Addiction also plans to implement additional operating procedures to prevent a similar problem from occurring in the future.

Customers who have purchased products affected by this recall should discontinue their use and any unused cans can be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund. Though no health concerns have been reported, if dogs are fed this product exclusively for a period of 60 days they would be likely to experience a reduction in appetite. Prolonged exposure to excessive levels of Vitamin A could also result in adverse health effects, particularly for young dogs. If you have concerns about the effects of this product on your dog, consult your veterinarian.
