On March 17, 2017, the Blue Buffalo company issued a voluntary recall for one lot of its Wilderness Rocky Mountain Recipe Red Meat Dinner Wet Food for Adult Dogs. This product was recalled due to concerns of potentially elevated levels of naturally-occurring beef thyroid hormones. Though Blue Buffalo has not received any complaints or reports of illness or injury related to this recall, the FDA did receive a single report of a dog that showed symptoms after consuming the affected product. Either way, customers should still avoid using the recalled product from the UPC code listed above.
Naturally-occurring beef thyroid hormones are not normally dangerous and they are present in Blue Buffalo Wilderness Rocky Mountain Recipe Red Meat Dinner Wet Food for Adult Dogs as well as other beef-based products. Dogs who ingest beef thyroid hormone in abnormally high levels, however, might develop a negative reaction.
